On Oprah Winfrey's
special annual Christmas program, she gives away her favorite things as
gifts to the entire studio audience. Of all the books that she constantly
reviews and recommends, both in her magazine and on TV, the one at the top
of her list (that was a gift to the audience) was "The Power of Now" by
Ekhart Tolle. It is one of our favorites as well! If you would like to see
a review of it or to order, click here

When Laker’s
basketball star Kobe Bryant was interviewed on the radio before
the game, he was asked about coach Phil Jackson (sometimes referred to as
the “Zen Master”.) Kobe said that although Phil always has strategic
information to share, the greatest help he gets from the coach before a
game is the reminder to stay centered and be in the moment!
The following is an excerpt from an interview by Sara Davidson with Meg
Ryan in Reader’s Digest, Feb. 2002:
Davidson: You’ve been a spiritual seeker for some time. Have you
always been interested in life’s big questions?
Ryan: I was raised a Catholic, and it didn’t work for me. And it’s
because it didn’t work for me that I became a seeker. I love the word
seeker because it’s what it says--that I have no answers; I’m always
in the questioning mode.
I read
Siddhartha when I was fifteen, and
I think that changed everything for me. And I have made it a point in the
last ten or fifteen years to meet as many enlightened people as I could,
and I’ve had a few experiences and meditations that have been undeniable.
Davidson: So at this point do you have a daily spiritual practice?
How does that nourish or sustain you?
Ryan: I don’t get to meditate every single day. I’m not that
disciplined. I do yoga more than I meditate. But even that, it just gets
you in this place of being a witness. You’re able to watch with a little
less attachment to everything, and it makes the day easier. It takes you
out of the place of judgment all the time.
On a recent Rosie O'Donnell Show, Stephen Collins (star of TV’s “Seventh
Heaven,” who plays a minister) surprisingly shared that he has been doing TM regularly ever since Maharishi
came to the U.S. and the Beatles started doing it. Rosie said
she has been doing yoga, but would also like to learn how to do
meditation, herself.
